the journey to getting published
by poet Austin Kleon:
…flowchart that compares my own publishing journey with what I was taught in college was the traditional route of becoming a published author. Looking at the chart, it strikes me that no matter what route you take, everything always comes back to the simplest beginning:
Write something good.
It’s easy to get caught up in the madness of the machine, and not get any time to do the thing you love.

Risk and the Creative Entrepreneur ~ your thoughts please
Calling all creative entrepreneurs…
The Creative Industries are known for being very risky and yet we have little understanding of how risk affects creative entrepreneurs. Nicky Riley at Birkbeck College is conducting research and is interested in your views on risk and how risk affects you.
Please help by filling out this survey. All fully completed responses will be entered into a prize draw – 4 individual prizes of Amazon vouchers worth £25 will be made and Nicky will contact the winners by email.
Please log on here to complete the questionnaire.
All survey responses will be treated anonymously and findings only reported in the aggregate. Please feel free to contact Nicky if you have any questions and require further information. The survey will be open until Friday 20th August 2010.
We value your feedback for this research very much and thank you for your time.

The Uniform Project: Little Black Dresses for Charity

Sustainable fashion and a worthy cause ~ take note. Last year Sheena Matheiken wore the same dress every day for a year to raise funds for the Akanksha Foundation, who provide education to underprivileged children in India. Tomorrow sees the launch of this year’s project ~ each month a different fashionista will wear the Little Black Dress everyday for a month to raise funds for a worthy cause.
Just for fun ~ watch the Uniform Project as each pilot reinvents their LBD using preowned, vintage, handmade and donated accessories to give you month-long lookbooks of sustainable style. Reward their efforts with a donation.
Plus you can get the LBD pattern to make your own ~ here.
